All On Four (or AO4) Dental Implants

All on 4 is a denture that can be retained permanently by 4 implants. Although AO4 is what the process is usually called, the prosthesis can be retained with 5 or even 6 implants. The more implants, the better the stability. The denture can be made with the standard acrylic, or with a high grade and more esthetically pleasing zirconia. Now with Zirconia, we can make a prosthesis that feels more like teeth than ever before!!

Getting your AO4

The steps necessary to wearing All On Four dentures are customized to your specific needs. First we will need you to come in for a consultation to evaluate your specific needs. We can then review expectations and then begin the process which usually runs 6-8 weeks. You will begin with a temporary prosthesis to allow time for healing. We will make adjustments during the initial healing phase to get you ready for your final secured all on 4 prosthesis.

We begin the 6-8 week process of making your final teeth six months after surgery. You’ll need to make several visits to the office, but for the most part the visits do not take as long. Aside from the surgical dental visit, most of your visits will be very short.

Cost

Fees can vary from patient to patient. The best option for you would be to come in for a consultation so we may review your concerns and needs in order to develop the best plan that works for you. Financing in our office is available through different means as well, so we can arrange monthly payments to best suit you, our patient!

Insurance

Medical insurance doesn’t cover All On 4, but most dental insurance policies can cover the maximum amount their plan allows, which is usually between $1,000 to $2,000. We may spread out the procedure over two calendar years so you gain additional yearly benefits, but keep in mind that for a single AO4, your dental insurance may only cover about 25%.

If you have dental insurance, we may be able to maximize its benefits for you, but typically it’s an out of pocket situation. There are financing plans available which is why it’s best to schedule your consultation to discuss all the details.

Things to keep in mind

Keep in mind that with anything, even your teeth, things can fail. Acrylic is durable but nothing lasts forever (my hair is not lasting forever, trust me, I have learned the hard way).

At times, there may be a break and/or wearing down of the denture teeth. These issues can be prevented using a protective night guard, but they are expected in due time, usually after five years.

The AO4 implant should only be removed by your dentist because it is attached at all times. The removal is when you come in for your periodic cleanings. Yes, you still need to come in for your hygiene appointments!!!

If you have a tendency to clench or grind your own teeth, you’ll keep on doing this habit which may make the problems likely to occur. Again, a guard can be made to sleep with at night to protect your AO4.

Unless there are concerns or issues, we suggest annual dental visits, and make sure that every five years you have x-rays, check-ups and cleanings to evaluate your implants.
